National Digital Literacy Mission

NDLM is a digital literacy programmer which is one of the components of Digital India programmer which is the dream programmer of the government. This programmer focuses on providing digital literacy to a person from each and every family of the country. Making one person in every family digitally literate is one of the integral components of the Prime Minister's vision of “Digital India”.

(NDLM) Scheme has been formulated to impart IT training to 52.5 lakh persons, including Anganwadi and ASHA workers and authorized ration dealers in all the States/UTs across the country so that the non‐ IT literate citizens are trained to become IT literate so as to enable them to actively and effectively participate in the democratic and developmental process and also enhance their livelihood. Altogether 52.5 lakh persons, including Anganwadi and ASHA workers and authorized ration dealers will be trained under the programmer in two phases. In the first phase, 10 lakh beneficiaries will be trained under the scheme. Nine lakh beneficiaries will be eligible for training fee support from the government. The rest 1, 00,000 beneficiaries will be trained by the industry and civil society partners. Under NDLM we have provided digital literacy to more than 18,000 beneficiaries in all parts of Tamil Nadu.

VTP Vocational Training Provider

Kalvi Trust has become Vocational Training Provider under Modular Employability Skill Development Scheme of Directorate of Employment and Training and the activity was implemented since 2012. We have implemented skill development in two sectors namely Information Communication and Technology (ICT) and Beautician and Healthcare. Kalvi has implemented Skill development training with 17 branches which includes 6 major districts of Tamil Nadu.

Kalvi has trained more than 1500 candidates under four different courses under IT and beautician and healthcare sectors in which IT includes major share of about 1154 in which major portion of the candidates includes women. Further with the support of government and the private companies which kalvi has conducted placement drives for the trained candidates and more than 800 candidates were placed in various companies and further kalvi itself has placed the trained candidates in their rural branches.

The University aims at holistic development of the students’ knowledge in various fields to realize the maxim as inscribed in the logo “Arival Vilayum Ulagu” (Wisdom Maketh the World). About 26 departments are functioning as research centres bridging the gap between the academic, industrial and social activities by catering the needs of the students.

The Periyar University has established a directorate for distance education namely PERIYAR INSTITUTE OF DISTANCE EDUCATION (PRIDE). The PRIDE has been started functioning from the year 2001 – 2002. The PRIDE offers various undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The course materials are supplied to the students well in advance. The Periyar University has also introduced University Industry Collaborative Programmes through PRIDE from 2010 – 2011 to offer job related programmes and to cater the industrial needs of the students.

Aim of the programme

Ensuring enrolment of children with schools and preventing school drop-outs of children were the key issues of the Indian literacy and it is highly in prevalence with the disadvantaged community. This programme of Kalvi focuses on bringing social motivation with the families of poor community and mainstreaming drop-outs through bridge education.

Programme overview

Today about 8 million children in India are out of schools due to poverty and disparity. Especially education of girl children is highly pathetic with the poor community. School children drop-outs were due to several reasons such as socio-economic condition of family, lack of motivation with the parents, loss of father in the family, etc., in which children were supposed to go for any work and support the family economy. This scenario is highly prevailing with community at rural areas and urban slums. Even though government is taking effort to ensure enrolments and reduce drop-outs, due to lack of social motivations the issue remains still. This program is mainly focusing on giving counselling to the parents and children’s of poor families and ensuring minimum level of education to the children.

Under this programme the staffs of kalvi will be approaching the target community in the kalvi locations and surroundings of the network schools. There they will be work together with the government staffs and school teachers to identify the drop-outs and providing counseling for social motivation. Further the children will be facilitating to have a bridge course and streamline with the education system to get proper education.

Impact created

Awareness created about the importance of education for children especially girl children among the deprived community.

Dropout children of deprived community and their families were sensitized and children were provided with bridge education and facilitated for schooling again.

Proper follow-ups of the target group to complete their education properly and facilitated them towards availing the services from government and other agencies.

STAAD PRO

OVERVIEW:

In late 2005, Research Engineers International was bought by Bentley Systems. It is the world's number one structural analysis and design software that supports Indian and all international codes. Structural engineering firms, structural consultants, departments in construction companies, owner/operators, and government agencies, and offshore platform designer’s use this software extensively.

OBJECTIVE:

To navigate the STAAD.Pro Graphical User Interface and to Create Structure Geometry. In this software it is easy to edit and view the structure geometry. The whole designs of concrete beams/ columns/ slabs are as per all major International codes.

PRE-REQUISITE:

Familiarity with general principles of structural engineering.

BIG DATA HADOOP

Definition:

Big Data is data sets with sizes beyond the ability of commonly used software tools. Big data challenges include capturing data, data storage, data analysis, search, sharing, transfer, visualization, querying, and updating and information privacy. By using this, we can implement a real time application Projects.

Education constitutes the backbone of a Country as it produces the human force which plays the most determining role in the advancement of a Nation and also in the progress of a civilization. No Nation could establish its dominance in world history by virtue of its sheer military might or economic affluence. The march of a Nation towards glory is carried forward by the competent human resource that a strong education system prepares. Education is one that provides the thrust in getting ahead and building up a powerful democratic society. Education system in India has a long history starting from Gurukul System to the ancient urban centers of learning like Takshashila, Nalanda and Vikramshila. After the second world war, world has been seen an enormous expansion in higher education. India was not exception from this. The higher education system of India has witnessed many fold increase in its institutional capacity since independence. Now India is the third largest higher education system in the world.

Open Educational Resources (OER) movement began in the 21st century for furthering the culture of open knowledge by free dissemination /sharing of knowledge. It is basically rooted in the philosophy of Open and Distance Learning (ODL) with the objective of expanding the access to knowledge to all types of learners pursuing non formal, formal and informal education. The using OER implies support for an open curriculum where learners have the flexibility to select units/courses to suit their personal needs. It is the responsibility of the Distance Education Council (DEC) to promote quality and standards in the ODL system and encourage ODL institutions to develop and offer quality programmers. Besides this, the DEC also encourages sharing of academic resources and thereby reducing duplication of efforts and enhancing the knowledge and other skill requirement of the users at large and also ensuring their wider accessibility.

The Distance Education Council can take up this initiative for developing Web Based Multimedia, Interactive e-Content repositories by pooling all the programmers developed by Distance Education Institutions (DEIs) attached to conventional Universities. The Directorate of Distance and Continuing Education of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University is offering various programmes with the mission of (i) to provide quality education for the rural and the unreached, (ii) to attain excellence in teaching, research and extension activities (iii) to imbibe, inculcate and promote human values so as to create a 'culture of lawfulness'.
